North America accounts for about 42% of the world’s pharmaceutical sales, yet we account for only 5% of the world’s population. There are currently about 24,000 prescription and over-the-counter drugs in the U.S. with more coming out all the time, according to Drugs.com. Over 70% of us take at least one prescription medication and over 50% of Americans over age 65 take five or more prescription drugs per day!
The pharmaceutical industry is all about “managing” disease, not curing it. As long as you are taking prescription or over the counter medications, you are sick. No drugs can make you well with the exception of antibiotics which kill bacterial infections, but even antibiotics kill beneficial, good bacteria along with the bad. All other drugs on the market allow you to remain ill by attempting to ease symptoms. The only way to actually cure chronic disease and regain health is to eliminate unhealthy habits and replace them with a healthy diet and lifestyle. The point of switching to a plant-based diet is to avoid illness and medication.
Prescription drugs work by chemically interfering with natural body functions. They inhibit or block processes, or they suppress the immune system leaving you open to new infections or diseases. Unfortunately when they stop one process, they affect several others — this is why drugs always come with a laundry list of side effects. There will never be a drug that doesn’t come with harmful risks because they are unnatural.
When the medical industry proclaims that a disease is “incurable” it only means that they can’t cure it, but you still have the power to cure it by switching to healthy habits. Stop feeding your body unhealthy foods and fill it with healthy foods and miracles happen! Health is found in your backyard garden or the organic produce department at the grocery store. You’ll never be able to buy health at the drugstore.
The problem with current medical thinking is that it treats diseases individually, requiring specific diagnoses and labels, explains Dr. Joel Fuhrman: ‘you have migraines,’ ‘you have depression,’ ‘you have psoriasis.’ And then you get the migraine pill, the antidepressant, and the immune suppressant, but all these diseases or conditions have the same root cause: inflammation. A diet full of anti-inflammatory plant foods – fruits and vegetables – prevents and cures virtually all diseases because it eliminates inflammation and toxicity allowing the body to heal naturally.
While the pharmaceutical companies rake in billions of dollars per year, just their painkiller drugs alone are killing more Americans than all murders, wars and acts of terror combined. Every day in the United States, over 131 people die as a result of prescription opioid overdose, according to the CDC. That’s about 48,000 people per year dying just from opioids. An anti-inflammatory diet will cure pain naturally while filling your body with the healthy nutrients it needs for organs to work properly. And speaking of nutrients – you can buy them in a bottle in the form of supplements, but vitamin pills can’t prevent or cure any disease, only the actual fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices can prevent and cure disease. You can’t buy health in a bottle whether it’s pharmaceuticals or vitamin supplements because these products are toxic to the body’s organs, such as the liver and kidneys.
Contrary to claims, marijuana cannot cure any disease. It’s just like any other drug – it can ease the pain of symptoms, but marijuana negatively affects the brain, central nervous system, and weakens the immune system. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is rapidly absorbed by fatty tissues in various organs. The amount of tar, carbon monoxide, and cancer causing chemicals inhaled in marijuana smoke are 3-5 times greater than that inhaled from the same amount of tobacco smoke. Just like cigarette smokers, people who smoke marijuana often develop breathing problems, coughing, wheezing, and COPD. Daily use of marijuana affects the parts of the brain that control memory, attention, and learning. Other side effects of marijuana use include risk of mental health problems – depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. More than 60% of schizophrenic patients are current smokers, according to the CDC.
Vitamin Supplements Are Not the Answer Either
Over 50 percent of Americans take costly vitamin supplements, with multi-vitamins being the most popular. Yet vitamin supplements do absolutely nothing to improve health or protect against disease.
We spend multi-billions of dollars per year on vitamins, yet sickness has become the prevailing “norm” in the U.S. This wasted money would be so much better spent on fruits and vegetables that actually do promote health and protect against disease. Vitamins and minerals come from plants, so it’s best to get them as nature intended, straight from the source.
Vitamin supplements can’t counteract the acidic, inflammatory, degenerative effects of eating the SAD Standard American Diet of meat, dairy, and processed foods. It’s the fat, cholesterol, hormones, heme iron, excess protein, bacteria, viruses and other pathogens found in animal-based foods, as well as the oils, sugars and salt of processed foods that are making us sick with chronic disease.
It’s impossible to pop a pill, whether vitamin or medication, to neutralize what these substances are doing to our bodies. Only eating the actual healthy fruits and vegetables can protect against disease because they are anti-inflammatory and alkaline, full of antioxidants, fiber, phytonutrients and cancer fighting phytochemicals.
